It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the garden at this time of year, with the summer flowers and rapid growth of the vegetable garden we get an explosion of weeds!
All too often we can be tempted with a quick fix, but before you reach for the weed killer check out some of the chemical free ways I’ve been coping with weeds on my allotment.
Stop digging your soil and adopt the no dig approach. Every time you dig the soil you risk exposing dormant weed seeds that are waiting to jump into action at the first sign of light.
Spend some time each day pulling weeds out by hand or hoe, it’s surprisingly quick and it’s a great way to keep an eye on what’s going on.
Use cardboard and plant through plastic sheeting on those large and unmanageable areas. This is a quick way to get on top of those big areas!
